Best piglet sandwich in Portugal, excellent wine list and good value. Try to get a table with view over Tamega river.

On this sunny hot day in June we are on the balcony of Herédio overlooking the river Tâmega and drinking chilled espumante. Marvelous. We shared a delicious peach salad and a leitão ( piglet ) sandwich.A lovely experience along with excellent service. The wine bar has about 14 tables. Parking has to be in one of the car parks or very limited street spaces nearby.

My friends and I were visiting Amarante and just wanted a place to have a beer and something casual to eat, like cheese and ham. At first, I thought this place might be a tourist trap, but I ended up with a delicious, charcuterie board and left very satisfied.

We have visited Casa Heredio several times, because they serve delicious food (tapas style) and their wine selection is really good. We particularly like their tacos and salad. During summer time it’s so nice to sit on the little balconies above the river and enjoy the tastes.

Stopped off in the town as it looked half way between the Douro valley and Porto’s airport and happened across this little gem. Wonderful in all respects, food, service, menu and ambiance. If it wasn’t 800 miles away, I’d go back every weekend. Food and wine both great but the sweet potato fries stole the show. Really helpful staff who tolerate the English and our quirky little ways. Go, go, go, you too will love it ! Many thanks

The daily special was a pork sandwich and was utterly delicious and all for 8 large selection of wines and delightful environment You could tell the owner took pride in their establishment friendly English speaking staff, keep in mind the outside deck overlooking river faces south and the sun will be hitting you in the afternoon, they do have drapes but it can get hot out there .
